not a sausage
This just in: thanks to a recent Language Log post, I have just discovered that the root which the English word “war” is derived from, (PIE *wers- meaning “to confuse, mix up”)* is the same root which resulted in the German word “wurst”, meaning sausage. This makes me ridiculously happy. I love etymology.
