Finna and tryna et al (no, they’re not the stars of a Suomi hockey team)
Well, I was going to write up a little response to these posts that Mark Liberman’s made recently about extreme contractions in modern urban slang - Language Log: Finna and tryna and “on” time
- and it’s to be hoped I will do it, perhaps tomorrow when the weekend gives me permission to think. Check these posts out if you’re interested though, Professor Liberman is far better versed in the cutting edge of linguistic theory than I. And he quotes Kanye West in this one!
This has spurred me on to get cracking with that little writeup on ‘Nah mean’ that I promised you lot a month or two ago - look for it on a monitor near you sometime in the next couple of days.
